The ADSS NPKD Service provides certificates and Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs) to Inspection Systems (IS), enabling them to validate the digital signatures generated by Document Signers (DS) on ePassport chips. To facilitate interoperability with client applications, the service supports the BSI TR-03129 protocol for data exchange and retrieval.


The NPKD Service aggregates and distributes data from multiple sources, including:

  • ICAO PKD: The NPKD Service can communicate directly with the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) to retrieve foreign Master Lists and CRLs.
  • Manual Uploads: Administrators can manually import Master Lists, CRLs, and Document Signer certificates into the NPKD Service when required.
